Youthy Seniors
Newton Aycliffe Women 0 v 2 Gateshead Rutherford
The last game at the Oakleaf this season for the Women and not the result they wanted.
Before the game many of Wildcats Girls development section had a training session on the pitch, before walking out as mascots with the Women, in front of a record attendance of 167 supporters. Thanks to everyone for coming, not the result we hoped, but hopefully you all enjoyed a fantastic game of football. See you all again next season.
The first half was edged by Newton Aycliffe coming close on several occasions and having a goal disallowed for offside just before half time.
Second half and the visitors were on top, two goals in quick succession, that came from unusual mistakes, gave Aycliffe an uphill battle. The team never stopped and came close on a few occasions, final score 0-2.
With fourth place already secured, the result wasn’t the be all and end all, on another day we take our chances and go on to win the game comfortably but that’s football.
Player of the match was voted for by the spectators and there was one clear winner, Kate Williams with 90% of the vote, and what a game she had, she hit the bar in the first half, came close on a number of occasions and was a threat all game.
Behind the scenes the team and our core supporters do a lot of work for charity, today they ran a stall selling teas, coffees, sweets and pop, and also ran a football card, we are pleased to announce we raised over £150 for St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington, thank you everyone for your support.
After the game all the players were invited back to Aycliffe McDonald’s for a free meal, some of the supporters came back as well, to celebrate another great season for the ladies. Big thank you to everyone at Newton Aycliffe McDonald’s the team all enjoyed themselves and we can’t wait to work closely with you all next season.
