Aycliffe Youth Council have recently donated a selection of children’s books to Vane Road Primary to assist the schools efforts to improve and update the reading stock within their library.
The group decided that many of the members had a surplus of quality, mostly children’s readings books, that they no longer required and were keen to give them to a local school or charity where children could benefit from them in the future.
In addition, a selection of novels were collected which were inappropriate for a primary school. These will be given to St Oswald’s Pre-school, so the nursery children can take them to one of their partner local care homes who the children visit on regular basis to give them as gifts to the residents.
Aycliffe Youth Council are a group of young people who are elected from their schools and partner organisations and aim to represent the views of their peers. The group are working on a variety of projects in the coming months which will be publicised closer to the time.
They are keen to point out the Youth Council have a small grants budget, where local young people can apply to be considered to receive a small grant to assist them in completing any activity that will benefit the people of the town.
