At last month’s meeting we held our Annual Auction of items, generously donated by our members, to raise funds for our WI. There was gin, wine, scarves, jewellery and much more to bid for and it was a fabulous night as usual.
October events have included a walk from Newton Aycliffe to the Railway Museum at Shildon, including refreshments at the museum before the return trip. The Autumn Council meeting was attended by our President and Vice President. Some members went to a fascinating talk at Spennymoor by Mike Thornton and Michael Chaplin on the work of Norman Cornish, his paintings and life, entitled ‘The Test of Time’. Finally, there was a trip to Bowes Museum to see ‘The Magic of the Silver Swan’ exhibition.
Our next meeting is in Aycliffe Village Hall on Wednesday 25th October at 7pm. There will be a talk – The Stigma of Single Mothers in Turkey and a Christmas Decoration demonstration. Refreshments are provided. Non members and visitors are very welcome to join us. Anyone who would like to join our WI, please contact our President Anne Brown via email aycliffevillage@durhamwi.co.uk
