Aycliffe Village History Society held an exhibition in the Village Hall on the 13th-14th September to commemorate those who took part in WW1 and to launch its new book, “The Great War: Great Aycliffe, Brafferton and Coatham Mundeville Remember”.
About 400 people visited to see a range of Great War artefacts, displays, photographs and maps relating to the 266 people mentioned in the book.
Aycliffe Village Primary School and Greenfield College contributed poems and letters to the book and displays for the exhibition. Many people were moved by the information, displays and children’s work and recorded their comments in the visitors’ book.
The exhibition will move to a shop in the town centre on 29th September for one week. The book is available for £7 from the Society – contact the web site at www.aycliffehistory.org.uk or the chairman Harry Moses on 01325 321773.
