Dear Sir,

For the past four years, as the County Councillor for Aycliffe East, it has been my pleasure to engage with the residents of Aycliffe Village. I have done this by meeting people with problems, liaising with groups, the Scout community, the school, the Village Hall Community and the Residents Association – a particular favourite of mine, was the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club, which I attended monthly and looked upon as a Ward Surgery.

This provided me with the opportunity to tick a number of boxes, including talking with residents on village issues, discussing possible and actual funding projects, and keeping abreast of Village Hall meetings and events.

A major draw, of course, was the bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches, dutifully served up by willing volunteer tea and butty experts … not just delicious but a great fundraiser. Unfortunately, the breakfast club had to be suspended because of Covid-19, and I miss the engagement since the lockdown.

I sincerely look forward to the next breakfast club morning in the village and chatting again with the regulars who always made me welcome! See you all soon and until then please stay safe.
