During April the UTC South Durham held a “Getting to know you” event for students who will be joining them in September 2017. The event was for both Year 10 and 12 students, with over 150 students attending. The event was aimed at helping students make friends, get to know UTC staff and complete the eight exciting engineering challenges that were on offer. UTC Students volunteered to help for the evening as buddies and ensured the students joining us felt comfortable.
Industry Partners joined in on hosting fun engineering challenges, along with special guests Bodg and Tom from Capital Radio who hosted the event and ran a structural engineering challenge and handed out prizes throughout the evening. Tom Dower, Principal said “Feedback from both parents and students was extremely positive. This year we have students apply to us from over 50 schools, so it’s important we make that transition as comfortable as we can. We are looking forward to welcoming all of our students in September”.
