The end of August and beginning of September have been busy for Aycliffe Tri Club with three of the club’s triathletes taking part in Half Iron Distance Triathlons that’s 1.9 mile swim, 56 mile bike followed by a 13.1 mile half marathon.
Martin Sedgwick and Rob Cherrie both raced at Newby Hall Half Iron Distance on the 24th August, this was the first time both men had competed at the distance where they both managed to go sub 6 hours with Martin Finishing in 5hrs and 43mins and Rob in 5hrs 26mins.
On the 7th September Vicky Howse completed the Wild Boar Half Iron Distance Triathlon at Warwickshire as part of a relay team. Vicky took the swim and the bike sections of the race giving the team a fantastic finish time of 5hrs and 34mins.
Next up was the Sprint Distance with the final of the Triology Super Sprints at Ellerton Water Park. The club was very well represented with eight triathletes taking part in the event. First home for the club was Dan Halladay in 47min 24sec next Michael Scott in 47min and 48sec, Henry Johnson 47min 56 sec, Melanie Rowland 53min 20sec, Gareth Elkin 54min 02sec, Penny Johnson 54min, Julie Hoods 59min and Rob Nicholson taking part in his first triathlon for the club and his first open water swim in 65min and 57sec.
Following the summer break the club are now back training in their regular Wednesday night slot at Woodham Academy Pool 7-8pm. If you are intrested in taking up triathlon then pop along during the session and have a chat with the coaches.
