The Rotary Club, in cooperation with Newton News, is pursuing their aim to encourage the
purchase of more public Defibrillators and having provided them at Tesco’s and Moore Lane Sports Club is in touch with schools and public buildings to list the location of this life-saving equipment throughout the town and on the Business Park. The idea is to get everyone to share their defibrillator in an emergency and having a list will inform everyone where the nearest equipment is available. It is good news to hear the message is getting across and schools, churches and community centres are appealing for funds to provide cover in their areas. There has been great success in this campaign with local surgeries offering access to their machines. Newton News will be publishing a list for readers to cut out and keep as a reference. The Rotary Club have a defibrillator which is available to organisations holding a public event and wish to cover this under Health & Safety – please contact Syd Howarth at Newton Press on 300212. No one need be afraid of using these machines which when switched on will guide the user through the life-saving procedure. No harm can ever be inflicted on the patient as the machine detects the problem and will not operate unless it is needed. It is vitally important a patient suffering a heart attack receives defibrillation, if required, within EIGHT minutes, or their chance of survival is reduced. If any reader knows the location of a defibrillator which can be made available and shared in an emergency, please contact syd@newtonnews.co.uk Telephone: 01325 300212 or after hours 320901.
