Wynyard 1 v Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 5
(League Cup)
An early decision was taken to switch the game to Wynyard 3G, to make sure that we could complete this cup fixture. Aycliffe started the game much better than the last few weeks and were always on the front foot. The lads had to be patient as Wynyard were playing five at the back with two sitters so it was hard to break down. Eventually a pass found Steven Dawson in the box, one touch and great finish. Aycliffe then hit the post from Jude Bowes, and their keeper made some good saves. With a minute to go ‘til half time, a ball was half cleared to Mason Steed, no-one came to close him down as he drove forward, he let fire from 30 yards out, and the ball flew into the top corner.
Half time, we just asked the lads to continue being patient and more goals would come. A Jack Mortimer free kick hit the inside of the post and rolled across the goal line and he then saw their keeper pull off a smart save before he was again set away, the defender was on the wrong side and pulled Jack back, leaving the Ref no choice but to show their defender their third card. Minutes later Jack was fouled in the box and stepped up and fired home. Aycliffe were now well in control of the game when Andrew Burrows won the ball in midfield, took a touch to get the ball out his feet, and his shot found the bottom corner. Wynyard were still battling and won a free kick on the edge of the box and fired though the wall. However, the final goal came from Aycliffe with some neat footwork that sent Sam Thompson away for one-v-one with the keeper and he finished well, to wrap up the game. MOM, as voted for by the Ref, was Andrew Burrows
Youth Games
Most games were off for our 19 young teams, but a couple were played on 3G pitches.
South Shields 7 v Aycliffe U13 Eagles 2
County Cup game against a side who have not conceded all season and are sitting unbeaten at the top of the RF Division 1, five leagues above the Eagles, and what a game we gave them. We couldn’t be more proud of the lads who not only gave South Shields a competitive game, but scored two cracking goals. From front to back the lads gave their all and should hold their heads high.
Blackwell Rangers 2 v Aycliffe U17 Eagles 5
Great win away from home, the lads have worked hard in games this season and it’s showing in the results. Goals from Jack, Travis and a hat trick from Alfie.
