Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 14 v Project Fitness 1
A game Aycliffe were always expected to win and knew it was a case of getting it out of the way injury free and using the chance to give lads game time.
After five minutes, a Jack Mortimer corner was headed home by Niall Douglas to give us the lead. This was followed five minutes later, when another corner was headed on target by Kieran Maughan allowing Ryan Peart to tap home. Aycliffe then completed a hat trick of corners with another Jack delivery, again headed in by Niall. The lads were now in complete control and looked dangerous every time they moved up the pitch. A great bit of build up play allowed Ryan to get a shot off that deflected in for 4-0. Niall and Ryan then both completed their hat tricks before half time. A couple of good appeals for penalties were waived away by the referee before Jack finally got his reward, scoring his first of the afternoon to make it HT 7-0.
We made all our subs at half time allowing everyone to get a minimum of 45 minutes. Within five minutes of the second half one of the subs, Sam Thompson, added our 8th. The visitors were still working hard but the passing and movement from Aycliffe was producing numerous chances. A free kick 20 yards out, Jack stepped, beats the wall, but the keeper saves, only for Niall to tap in for his 4th of the game. A curling ball was tucked away by Jack for his second and Aycliffe’s 10th. A mix up at the back saw project fitness grab a goal but the lads weren’t finished yet.
Cameron Martin , Reed Molloy, Andrew Burrows all went close or hit the woodwork before Aycliffe won another free kick, similar position as the previous one, however, this time Jack made no mistake, curling the ball around the wall into the top corner, to complete his hat trick.
Jon Hardy was sent on a run, his cross was closed down, but he pounced on the return ball smashing into the top corner. There was still time left on the clock for Jack to add his 4th of the game and Cameron Nicholson headed home for the 14th and final goal of the game.
A game where the lads cruised along in second gear against an opposition who have struggles at this level but, at times, played some excellent football.
The bigger results were elsewhere, as one of our league challengers suffered their first defeat of the season. Next week’s game is the main trophy for the Wearside League, as Aycliffe travel to New Ferens Park for a 3pm ko v Durham Corinthians.
