Members of Aycliffe Running Club have been very busy over the last few weeks competing in a number of events. The last in the series of 5K Tees Trail races was at Ropner Park on 22/08/13.
The race was very well attended by Aycliffe Running Club and series winners included Sue Milburn, Kelly Smith, Naomi Kellett, Anne Kellett. Penny Johnson, John Burnside, Kevin Greenall, Trevor Needham, Peter Milburn.
At the Spofforth 10K trail race on 26/08/13 a hornets nest was disturbed by runners. However, Aycliffe Running Club members Peter Milburn and Sue Milburn managed to avoid being stung and ran well in the 25 degree heat. Peter was 22nd in 44:30 and Sue was 129th and 2nd FO55 in 56:26.
It was a good turnout for Aycliffe Runniing Club on 01/09/13 for the first Wynyard 10K trail race. The course was set in the scenic Wynyard Woodland Park and up the historic railway path with a flight of steps at the end making the race approximately 6.67 miles. Richard Campbell was first to finish for Aycliffe in 44:23 followed by Peter Milburn 44:51, Tom Porter 46:44. John Burnside 49:55, Peter Smith 50:07, Graeme Miles 53:21 and Susan Milburn 56:35.
On 01/09/13 Aycliffe Running Club member Lee Wren ran the Hexham to Tynemouth Ultra described as a brutal 37 mile off road course. Despite having a dislocated collar bone, he was 1 of only 5 to finish the course which he completed in 6:54 hours. On the same day Robert Young and John Young completed the Tholthorpe 10K in 44:47 and 49 minutes.
On 04/09/13 5 Aycliffe runners took part in the last of the 5K Coast Road Series at Redcar. Conditions were perfect and good times were recorded by Peter Smith 20:16, Trevor Needham 22:02, Kelly Smith 22:16, Penny Johnson 23:41, her fastest 5K time in 2 years, and Rob Nicholson 24:50.
On 07/09/13 Richard Harvey competed in the Veterans Athletics Association North East 5K Track Championships at Monkton Stadium. Although he thought he had run badly he was 1st O70 in 25:16.
It was a bright sunny day on Sunday 08/09/13 for the annual Middlesbrough 10K road race. Hundreds of spectators lined the route supporting and encouraging the runners. Also, bands played around the route for the enjoyment of spectators and runners. 7 members of Aycliffe Running club travelled to Middlesbrough for this event. First home for Aycliffe was Floyd Jones in 37:09 and 56th position. First lady to finish for Aycliffe was Trish Kay in 49:59. She was followed by Simon Robinson 51:58, Dave Mackenzie 56:44, Susan Clark 1:01:28, Kat Aspey 1:02:13, Rachel Aspey 1:02:13.
Other members of Aycliffe Running Club have continued to support the local Saturday morning park runs whilst others trained hard in readiness for The Great North Run last weekend.
