With May’s race calendar being the busiest of the year, Aycliffe’s runners have been far and wide to compete.
The Raby Castle 10K always provides a challenging race and this year was no different with the race taking in the scenic surroundings of the castle and all of it’s hills! Dez Fielden continued his excellent season finishing 8th overall in 37:36. Rob Nicholson continued his assault on marathon running with a run he described as ‘hell’ at Windermere. A hilly course with great scenery and lots of support from spectators helped get him round in 4 hours 58 mins with Julie Nisbet finishing just 4 minutes behind.
Rob also completed the Edinburgh Marathon in 4 hours 55 along with Wendy Bake 4:25, Craig Robinson 4:56, Ste Smith 5:11, Yvonne Williams 5:18 and Elaine Morgan 5:41. Taking on the shorter half marathon distance and putting in excellent performances were Alex Lineton 1:33:58, a new PB, and Kat Aspey 2:19.
Also competing recently were Richard Campbell, Tom Porter and Michael Smith who all achieved PB’s in the Middlesbrough 5K and Andrew Robertson who took part in the first open water triathlon of the season in Northumberland, finishing 88th overall and knocking an impressive 3 minutes of his swim time.
The Aycliffe 10K takes place on June 16th, entries are still open. Road closures have been advertised.
