Wynyard Woodland Park was the venue for the penultimate event in the Summer Tees Trail series of 5K races. It was a pleasant late summer evening, but the slightly long course and the horrendous climb in the form of steps towards the end, made it a testing race and this was reflected in the generally slower times.
Relative newcomer to the club, Richie Wade showed his worth and was first home for the club in 6th place in the time of 19:18. Martyn Knox, getting into his stride after injury was next to finish, 35th in 22:33, followed by John Burnside, 41st in 23:01 and Dave Blewitt, 47th in 23:21.
Paul Stretton was next to cross the line, 51st in the good time 23:21, followed by Alan Wilks who was once again 1st M/65 and 55th overall in 24:17 and Cyd Upton, 62nd in 24:46.
Susan Milburn had a strong run and was 1st F/55 and 81st overall in 26:04, followed by Kelly Smith, 97th in 27:18 and Trish Kay, 99th in 27:23.
Super fit Penny Johnson ran up all the steps and was rewarded with the time of 27:27 in 100th position, followed by Yvonne Williams, running well to finish 163rd in 33:15 and Ray Todd, 166th in 34:26.
On the same evening six of our athletes took part in the Durham Summer Cross Country Relays. The men’s senior team finished an excellent 15th out of 74 teams. Total time 31:43. The senior women’s team also put on a good show, finishing 18th out of 26 senior women’s teams. Total time 40:52.
The results were as follows :- Men’s team – Mark Wade 10:32, Dez Fielden 10:27, John Surtees 10:44. Women’s team – Michelle Jane 13:51, Michelle Zamir 13:27, Tracy Surtees 13:28.
The following runners achieved PBs in the Sedgefield Parkrun. Denise Evans 29:32, Diane Nicholson 29:33 and Eve Doe 34:28.
