On Sunday 14th October 10 members of Aycliffe Running Club travelled to Richmond for the annual Richmond Castle 10K. Weather conditions were ideal for running, bright and cool.
This year the race started at The Batts down by the river instead of the market place, so no downhill start this time. Then began the long climb out of Richmond on undulating roads towards Bourlon Barracks.
There are also some very steep declines in this race before the long undulating hill back to the finish inside the grounds of the Castle. Not a race for trying to achieve a personal best, however, some good times were recorded. First home for Aycliffe and 5th overall was Dez Fielden in 37:44, followed by Lee Wren 40:28 and closely followed by Peter Milburn 40:41 and 2nd M50. Next was Tom Porter in 43:33, Nigel Holmes 45:47, Gary Minns 51:07.
First lady back for Aycliffe was Wendy Bake 51:53 followed by Trish Kay 53:23, Dave MacKenzie 57:55 and Tracey Warrior 59:48. All agreed the race was tough, a real challenge but a good training run.
On the same day other Aycliffe runners chose to do the NYSD 6.75 mile Cross Country at Acklam. First home for Aycliffe with a superb run on the tough muddy course was Martyn Knox in 48:50. Next was Dave Thompson 49:06 followed by Richard Campbell 49:40, Dean Barclay 52:27, Kevin Greenall 53:04, Colin Gibson 54:51.
