Not only have Aycliffe Radio presenters continued to produce shows and keep local residents entertained during the lock-down, but behind locked doors they have also organised various Facebook Live events, the latest of which took place on Saturday 13th June between 1.00pm and 4.00pm and included performances from local entertainers Micky Richards, Jenna Highfield and Neville Jones, as well as a special performance from Jay Murray a Cavern Club (Liverpool) resident singer.
The event took place for two reasons, the first being to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and the second to start the celebrations for Renee Glover who is to celebrate her 106th birthday this weekend. Renee is a former ‘Aycliffe Angel’, it was therefore very fitting that the event be held in ROF59 function room, which turned out to be a fantastic recording studio for the day.
Micky Richards kicked off the proceedings with his take on some cracking 80s tunes and party tracks.
Jenna Highfield then took listeners and viewers back in time to music from the 1940s, followed by Neville Jones who entertained in his own inimitable way.
Jay Murray finished the afternoon off with a selection of tracks made famous by the Beatles.
The acts all gave their time and performances for free as they attempted to raise funds for the local SSAFA branch (Soldiers, Sailors & Airmens Families Association). Which raised nearly £400.
Aycliffe Radio would like to thank all the artistes, the back stage volunteers, ROF59 Activity Centre for the use of the facilities and in particular, Gary Avery who was the MC for the afternoon.
Photography was also donated by Pink Fairy Captures (Tel: 07584 065123).
