Have you realised that the Labour manifesto mentions Newton Aycliffe? On page 11, when it is talking about the need for investment in transport infrastructure, it promises to link the HS2 rail project to Crossrail of the North “… AND ON TO THE DURHAM FREIGHT CENTRE.”  The ‘Durham Freight Centre’ to which it refers is the Rail Freight Interchange proposed for the Forrest 2 extension to Aycliffe Business Park, for which they are currently laying the foundations in the fields next to McDonald’s. Wouldn’t THAT be a wonderful thing to get for Newton Aycliffe? By contrast, unfortunately, the Conservatives have removed Crossrail 2 from their manifesto.
