Two homes owned by homes and communities business ‘livin’ are through to the final voting stages of Beamish Museum’s ‘Replicate my 1950’s Semi’ campaign.
As part of the competition the museum offered North East residents the chance to have their semi-detached houses replicated in a new 1950’s town that is planned at the attraction as part of the Remaking Beamish Project.
The homes of Alan and Jennie Pybus from Newton Aycliffe and Mrs Stirling from Fishburn Village were entered and shortlisted for the project and will now be part of a public vote to decide whether their properties will be part of the town being rebuilt.
Mr and Mrs Pybus, moved into their four bedroom property in 1974 due to their growing family. With plans to demolish the house in the late 1970’s cancelled, Alan and Jennie have seen their home modernised with new uPVC windows and a new roof and believe their home has stood the test of time.
Rachael Swales, Head of Communities for livin, said: “We’re delighted two of our homes have made it through to the final of the competition. Each home has its own unique story and is well loved by our tenants. We’re urging everyone to go online and vote and hopefully we’ll see a piece of our local community recreated at Beamish.”
The public is invited to go online and vote for their favourite properties at www.beamish.org.uk or in person at Beamish Museum.
The residents will find out whether their homes have been chosen to be included in the 1950’s town along with a parade of shops, police house, café, cinema and even a trolleybus system, on Wednesday 1st April.
