400 gymnasts made the trip to the University for this exciting annual event. Every year the Festival takes on a theme, and this year was “Once Upon A Time”.
Athena, Sports Academy, based at Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre and Aycliffe Leisure Centres, were joined by many Squads based in the North, including Newcastle, Teesside, North Yorkshire, Liverpool and Lancashire. 18 squads performed to a sell out crowd.
Athena had 2 squads for the event, as well as their mainstream squad and were also joined by a superb Disability Group who performed a version of Little Red Riding Hood. The inspirational performance was superbly choreographed by Head Coach, Gerry Fuller.
During the programme many of the groups came up with interesting story lines, including Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz and War of the Worlds.
Athena’s coaches Samantha Robson and Brittainy Fuller, after last years successful Gymfusion had to better last year’s efforts and they certainly didn’t disappoint. This year’s, “In a land Far Away”, was a brilliant arrangement of all elements of Gymnastics brought together in a fantastic routine which was delivered by all gymnasts with ease. Athena Sports Academy have their own Gymnastics Showcase coming soon with a Christmas Display at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on Saturday 7th December.
This year’s theme is Musicals, so all the recreation classes will put together routines to all your favourite musical numbers. Also included in the showcase will be the not to be missed Gymfusion Routines which will blow you away. Look out for more news on the Christmas Display in the coming weeks.
