Two committed athletes from CrossFit All Out Gym in Newton Aycliffe battled their way through five gruelling workouts to claim 1st prize in the Gateshead competition “Glacier Games – Ice Age” last month.
Vicki Finn Smith and Yasmine Meite teamed up for the same-sex fitness competition and knew they were in with a good chance of winning after qualifying in 1st place, but also knew they were up against some strong athletes. The workouts were a mixture of Olympic weightlifting movements, rowing, wall balls, burpee box jump overs, pull ups, toes to bar, ski erg, handstand walks and bar muscle ups. No easy task and a test of a multiple of strength, fitness and skills.
Head Coach and affiliate owner Terry Anderson said “Yasmine has been a core member at CrossFit All Out since our opening in January 2014 and Vicki just over 1 year. Together they are a very strong and skilled team, a force to be reckoned with in the CrossFit arena. I am a very proud Coach and look forward to see where the future takes them.”
CrossFit All Out also had another 2 teams compete at the event and both did well, completing some tough workouts up against some strong competition.
Bex Shaw and Rachel Burnip who both work for the NHS, have been avid CrossFitters for sometime now, but have more recently focused on improving their skills in order to compete, placing 21st overall at this event.
Members since CrossFit All Out first opened, Frazer Macintosh and local firefighter Michael Pearson paired up for their first ever competition in the scaled division and had a lot of support on the day.
Terry said “This is what it’s all about, just enjoying your fitness no matter what level you are and always having something to aim for. To have members enter their first competition is exciting and helps push themselves outside of their comfort zones, building strength of character and confidence. Some members commit all of their free time to CrossFit outside of work and others are juggling busy family life too. We are lucky to have such a great community of members all supporting each other and will always welcome new athletes who would like to compete within CrossFit or other sports.”
