Newton Aycliffe Youth Football Club started their first girl’s team in 2004 with only 9 players at the under 13 age group. The club had the vision and ambition to grow the number of teams and offer football for all ages. Whilst developing the players we also needed more female coaches to work with these young girls.
The 2012/2013 season has just finished with over 50 girls regularly attending coaching sessions and playing competitive football in the Russell Foster Girls Football League. During this time we have had 8 female coaches attain the Level 1 Coaching Qualification.
The work on the training ground is also getting rewards in the leagues with several teams over the past seasons winning league and cup competitions.
This season our under 16’s competed at 11 a side in the premier division eventually finishing mid table. They played against several teams with bigger catchment areas and larger squads but always matched their opponents in every game. Our under 13’s completed their first season at 9 a side and finished an excellent 4th place. They also had a terrific cup run eventually losing in a tight final. The under 11 Girls have completed their first season in the league at 7 a side and have grown in confidence as they gained the experience of playing team football.
The improvement was evident as they finished runner up in the League Cup, which is a competition over 18 games, played from March to May. The under 10 team only started coaching sessions at the end of 2012 but entered the League cup in March.
They had several excellent results and many good performances which will prepare them for the start of the next season commencing end of June, as girls football is a Summer League. This makes playing and watching a lot more enjoyable for everyone
The football club is now looking to develop more girls and are offering coaching sessions for current year 4 and year 5 girls who are keen to play football and want to be part of the growth of female football in Newton Aycliffe.
