A massive weekend of mixed martial art from Gary Watson and Dave Cunliffe from Newton Aycliffe who compete out of The Lab Gym in Darlington.
Both fighters trained non stop for the last 3 months for their matches which were arranged for Machine mma 8 in Stanley last weekend. Gary fought a very tough southern fighter who was very unorthodox and tricky. The bout saw a great clash of styles and Gary showed impressive technique landing some devastating low kicks and knees but got caught with some wild shots which ended the bout, but he took experience home from the fight and showed he is a real force in his division.
Dave was matched against a tough Scottish opponent with a 5-1 record for the Featherweight title. The bout started quickly with both fighters exchanging punches, using grappling technique but Dave caught his opponent with a blinding body kick which forced the takedown shot bringing a submission with a figure four guillotine choke.
Dave is now the MMA featherweight champion and the Total Combat British Featherweight Champion.
