Aycliffe Fell Walking Club (AFWC) is very proud to have been in existence for over 40 years. Equally significant since the Covid19 outbreak is the return to a programme of monthly walks. It has been a difficult year with no walks in the Lake District but it has meant that we have been able to engage with closer terrain in the North Yorkshire Moors, Northumberland and the Yorkshire Dales. It is anticipated that a return to walks in the Lake District will be planned for 2023.
On August 13th AFWC has a walk going out to Cross Fell and finishing in Appleby-in-Westmoreland.
AFWC walks continue to cater for all abilities so that you don’t have to take on the heights of Cross Fell and Great Dun Fell but instead can take a number of lowland routes from the local villages of Kingland, Blencarn, Milburn and Dufton or try an ever popular route to High Cup Nick, all of which will end up in Appleby.
Later in the year, and always on the second Saturday of each month, we have Pateley Bridge to Grassington (YD), Rothbury to Warkworth (N), Bowes to Middleton-in-Teesdale and Chop Gate to Helmsley (NYM).
Travel is by luxury coach and still at a cost of £10 per head per visit. The coach picks up walkers from Darlington, Newton Aycliffe, Middridge, Shildon and Bishop Auckland and sometimes Barnard Castle, if on route to the destination.
If you are interested in fell, hill or lowland walking with a friendly bunch of like-minded walkers, then this is the club for you.
Information is posted on our website aycliffefellwalkingclub.com and new walkers can apply for a seat on the coach by filling in the online form which will then be diverted to AFWC Secretary.
