Newton Aycliffe FC are gearing up for another record crowd next week, with Premier League giants Sunderland visiting Moore Lane Park.
Club officials have met with representatives from the local police and council to make sure the game goes ahead smoothly next Friday night July 20 7.30pm kick-off.
Aycliffe FC have been proactive in trying to ensure minimal disruption to nearby residents and are keen to make sure everyone enjoys the occasion. They’re expecting a huge crowd for Sunderland’s first-ever visit to Aycliffe, with hopes they can exceed their record attendance of 1,307 for  previous pre-season friendlies against Darlington.
Aycliffe Council are helping to provide additional parking on the field adjacent to Aycliffe Sports Club, while more than a dozen police officers are expected to be on hand to make sure traffic flows smoothly.
Chairman Gary Farley said: “A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to secure this prestigious game first of all, followed by lots of preparations to make sure everything goes smoothly.
“We’re now all looking forward to what should be a special occasion for the town, as well as an historic match.
“Additional parking for this match will undoubtedly help, but fans can also help by grouping together in cars wherever possible, getting lifts or taxis, and by giving yourself plenty of time.
“We’re expecting a huge crowd, possibly our biggest yet, so we’d ask everyone to come as early as possible to avoid any potential delays getting into the ground.”
Admission to the Sunderland game next Friday night is £5 adults and £3 concessions (Over-65s & Under-16s), with kick-off 7.30pm.
Aycliffe FC had to postpone their annual Summer Fun Day last Sunday, due to the bad weather. It has been re-arranged for Sunday 19th August. www.newtonaycliffefc.co.uk
