Annis Race has successfully obtained a place at the prestigious Urdang Academy in London and this week has started her studies on their 3 year BA Honours degree course in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre.
This is a truly remarkable achievement, with only 64 places up for grabs and over 2,000 people from all over the world auditioning. Annis, who is 18, has been dancing and singing from the age of 4 and has done all styles of dance over the years.
Her mother, Caroline Race is immensely proud of her daughter’s achievement and still teaches her to this day at South Durham School of Dance. Annis has gained the highest honours in all aspects of dance in exams and has recently been nominated for a scholarship by the IDTA because of her outstanding performance.
Annis works hard and has a lot of passion for dancing, singing and acting developeing these skills over a number of years. She was previously studying for an Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre at the Stockton Riverside College and successfully achieved a triple star distinction.
She has been singing and playing guitar with John Melvyn since she was 9. John along with Terrence Lawson, have helped Annis develop and discover her voice and she thanks both of them and everyone else who has played a part in helping her achieve her ambitions of getting into a top London Dance and Musical Theatre School.
Students who attend Urdang Academy can go on to perform in the West End of London, both singing and dancing in the biggest shows and musicals. They also get the opportunity to perform on stage and in music videos and around the world for top artistes as commercial dancers for the likes of Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Ga-Ga, etc..
Annis intends to work extremely hard over the next 3 years to hopefully achieve her ambitions. Although she will be back home from time to time and intends to pass on what she has learnt to other potential hopefuls, by hosting workshops via her mother’s dance school.
