Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, salvaged a battling draw at home to Saltburn 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. The visitors were asked to bat first and piled up an impregnable total of 258 all out after 45.5 overs. Sean Morgan (4 for 41) was the pick of the bowlers and he was supported well by both Matty Greaves and George Slatcher who had identical figures of 2 for 34. In reply, Aycliffe batted poorly, but were rescued by an heroic unbeaten last wicket stand of 51 by Sean Morgan (31 not out) and Leon Patel (24 not out) to help their side finish on 180 for 9 after 54 overs. Earlier in the innings Matty Greaves top scored with 44 off 51 balls, including seven boundaries and a six and Joe Teasdale continued his good run of form with 34 runs off 44 balls.
The 2nd team put in a good performance but still lost by four wickets away at top of the table Sedgefield 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. Electing to bat first, Aycliffe were bowled out for 112 after 29 overs, but were thankful for a career best score of 32 from 26 balls by 15 year old Dan Heaton and 31 from 47 balls by Dan Weldon to give the innings some substance. In reply, the Aycliffe bowling attack of Dan Weldon (2 for 19), Leo Stout (2 for 21) and Ramzan Hussain (2 for 42) made the homeside batsmen fight for every run and it took them 36.5 overs to reach their modest winning target.
