Subway and Healthy Heart UK have funded Lifeline Community Action (LCA) to set up a Healthy Heart Hub in Newton Aycliffe. Tricia Stewart LCA’s Project Co-Ordinator is excited to get this off the ground and will run the Healthy Heart Hub in the Silverdale area of Newton Aycliffe.
Tricia says she wants to support people to become more active which makes you feel more energetic and actually makes you feel well, it’s also a good way to meet new people and make new friends.
The Healthy Heart Drop-In will deliver practical hands on activities and it will be in a safe environment that is user friendly, fun and educational.
The sessions will be run on a weekly basis and will cover:
• Healthy Heart Diet
• A balanced diet
• Food and nutrition facts
• Preparing food
• Fats and cholesterol
• Food labels
• Practical cooking sessions
• Walk and talk
• Local Walks and time to get any worries off the mind
• Family activities – ball games, hula hoop fun, skipping, walks, picnic in the park
• Teddy Bear Picnic
• The harms of smoking
The Healthy Heart Hub aims to support everyone in Newton Aycliffe and will cover:
• Heart disease/How to live well with heart disease
• Obesity • Wellbeing • Low mood/depression • Tiredness
• Fitness • Budgeting
• Skills in cooking (healthy food for all the family)
• Family fun and fitness (playing games together as a family promoting strengthening the family as well as getting fit together)
