Newton Aycliffe Boxer James LePoidevin (17) took part in the first ever Lord Lonsdale Box Cup, held in the grounds of Lowther Castle.
The event was over the weekend of 2nd & 3rd June involving over 150 boxers from all over the country, all hoping to win the title of Lord Lonsdale Champion.
James is a former 2 times National Champion and has represented England on a number of occasions.
His class certainly shone through as he put on an incredible performance to win the Gold medal in the 63 – 66kg category. He now hopes to return to the same event in 2019 where he has the opportunity to defend his title and if successful, awarded the prestigious Lord Lonsdale Amateur Belt.
James trains at Aycliffe Amateur Boxing Club under the guidance of Head Coach Les Gibson and Assistant Coach Stuart LePoidevin.
The club is open to both males and females and the opening times are: Mon, Tues, Thurs 6pm till 7pm for Juniors and 7pm till 8pm for adults. Wed 6pm till 7pm ladies only. Sat 10am till 12 noon. For further info please contact Les Gibson on 07989 830049
