Aycliffe Museum’s ‘Heart-beat’ bus played an active role in transporting 30 WW II re-enactors from Kidderminster to Tenbury Wells, near Worcester, to the Regal, a restored 1930’s cinema which was showing ” Went the Day Well” a 1942 b&w film about wartime Britain.
LHN 860, the Society’s 40’s bus was down at the SVR supporting their 40’s week giving free rides to passengers and school parties. With better weather this year the bus was a popular working example of life in wartime Britain.
The cinema trip was a first event for Tenbury Wells. Cinema manager and local townspeople have already ‘booked’ the bus for next year as they are confident that a week of 40’s films would be well received by locals and visitors alike.
Last week Society members and friends visited NRM York to see the A4 pacific locomotives ( along with half of England!) and enjoyed a Heartbeat Special into North Yorkshire and to Whitby using its newly restored 1958 United coach. “We are now able to offer luxury travel at 60mph” said Secretary Ian Wiggett . “We have waited a long time for this restoration to be completed but the wait has been worth it.”
