Last year Aycliffe Village resident Gary Grainger was runner up in the Blues Broadcaster’s category of The British Blues Awards. The winner was Paul Jones from BBC Radio 2. Gary didn’t let this get him down, he just kept broadcasting his Blues Show every Sunday from 6-8pm on 105.9 BishopFM and online at BishopFM.com.
Gary’s perseverance paid off when in September he was awarded the trophy for Independent Blues Broadcaster of the Year from the British Blues Awards committee. Gary said “I simply play the music I like – and it seems that other people like it too” Gary’s show is syndicated worldwide on Kansas City Online Radio, and in Spain on Radio QFM in Fuertaventura.
Gary frequently features studio guests, who can range from local musicians who are just starting out, to more well known blues acts like Aynsley Lister, who is playing at Shildon Civic Hall on October 5th. Gary has recently returned from the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton, Canada, where he interviewed British Blues legend John Mayall for his show.
