Kate Avery from Newton Aycliffe who last year ran for England at The Glasgow Commonwealth Games finishing 4th in the 10,000 metres, had a great run last Sunday in Bulgaria during the European Cross Country Championships. She finished a very close second to take the silver medal behind fellow Brit, Gemma Steel. Our ladies took the Team Gold Medal.
Gemma Steel led home a one-two with Kate Avery in the women’s race as Great Britain topped the medals table at the European Cross Country Championships.
Kate Avery, Steel and team-mate Steph Twell were part of the leading pack in frosty Bulgaria, before Steel won in the final sprint finish.
Kate aged 23 attended Woodham Technology College and is a member of Shildon Athletics Club.
