Cornmill Shopping Centre will be supporting the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour to promote autism-friendly shopping in Darlington on Sunday 6th October from 10:30am.

Cornmill Shopping Centre will be supporting local shoppers in need of quieter and calmer surroundings, from elderly shoppers or people who have other types of disabilities such as autism and dementia.

On Sunday 6th October and on every Sunday morning at 10.30am for an hour, Cornmill Shopping Centre aims to provide customers with a break from the overload of sensory attractions, creating a calmer atmosphere.

Susan Young, centre manager at the Cornmill Centre, said: “We recognise that some of our shoppers struggle with the hustle, bustle and noise that a busy shopping centre can generate. To support these shoppers, some of whom would prefer to shop in quieter and calmer surroundings, and others who have autism and dementia, our weekly quiet hour will help to create a more relaxing and enjoyable shopping experience for all, providing customers with a break from the sensory overload.”
