Butterwick Hospice are staging a Ladies Day at the Park Head Hotel in Bishop Auckland on Wednesday 11th June 2014.
The day begins at 11.00am with tea/coffee on arrival and you are invited to browse the stalls to enjoy a little retail therapy.
Once you have been assigned to your tables our guest speakers will give you an insight to include a nostalgic look into this year’s centenary of the First World War of 1914, and how women lived through such trying times of worry stress and sirens whilst trying to maintain reality within the home and family life whilst their sons, husbands and family loved ones were at war at the front. Maeve Nattrass gets into character to portray the services of a serving 1st world war nurse.
In contrast our second speaker ‘Sandra Mark’ an accomplished artist displays and explains how her diverse skills led to making of up to 40 garments for Sir Elton John as a clothes designer in London and now to art commissions and works that involve painting onto silk and intricate sewing details with the finest silk threads and exquisite bead work. Some of the works involve between 300-500 thread changes and take up to six weeks to complete. Art works from the recently opened gallery in Bondgate Bishop Auckland will be on sale throughout the day
This will be followed by a luncheon of Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, seasonal vegetables and a dessert of finest English strawberries served on shortbread, tea/coffee.
There will be a traditional tombola and fundraising raffle with all proceeds going to the Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland.
