Aycliffe Running Juniors were back in action at the Andy Billett Memorial – Festival of Athletics – CDAN Event at Shildon 2000 Stadium on Friday 2nd July. Up against local clubs – Crook Juniors; Derwentside A.C.; Durham City Harriers; Phoenix Flyers and Sedgefield Harriers, from the County Durham area. Competing in a quad athletic event.
Out in force, with the largest number of participants for a single club in the competition, Aycliffe were well prepared and in high spirits for the night. As heavens opened up and rain began to fall heavy, the juniors rallied together to produce some stunning performances, with many PBs falling throughout the events.
Under 9 Girls – saw exceptional debut performances from Mila Parnaby and Amelia Scaife, finishing in 1st and 2nd place for their age category. A fantastic result.
Under 9 Boys – A solid all round performance from Elijah McLuckie. 4th overall, after impressive Long Jump and 400m.
Under 11 Girls – Charlotte Clay taking 1st overall in the Aycliffe Team – 5th in the competition and Hannah Brischuck in close pursuit with 6th place overall. With an amazing run, Trinity Donoghue took 1st place in 600m with a time of 2:10 followed closely by Hannah 2:11.
Under 11 Boys – Joseph Waites getting on the Winners podium in 3rd place aided by an outstanding howler throw.
Under 13 Girls – In a strong category, Courtney Bowes gave an all-round performance to get on the podium to take 3rd place overall. Winning the Long Jump in tough conditions. Lydia Mosher throwing furthest for Aycliffe in Howler. In the 100m, Elizabeth Clay running 14.7 was enough to set the fastest time overall.
Under 13 Boys – Keeping the Aycliffe throwing team going Conner Scaife produced a rocket of a throw to place 3rd, and finishing 4th overall, narrowly missing out on a podium by 12 points.
