Sedgefield Racecourse in County Durham, hosts the annual Raceday sponsored by Collins Seafoods Ltd on Sunday 5 March and this year sees the final of the Young Chasers Series.
The Young Chasers Series is for horses five years old and upwards that have ran in one of the eight qualifying races beginning in August 2016. Amongst those qualifying for the £30,000 prize fund include leading Sedgefield trainer Brian Ellison, local and long supporting trainers Chris Grant and Rebecca Menzies plus Sue Smith, another leading trainer at Sedgefield, Micky Hammond, Donald McCain and Tim Easterby.
The racecourse is preparing to dish up a traditional English raceday, with the return of one its most popular fixtures serving up the traditional British treat of fish and chips to guests on the day.
Gates open at 12.20pm meaning racegoers can enjoy fish & chips prior to racing which commences at 2.20pm. Collins Seafoods Ltd, have kindly supplied the fish for the day which is available to purchase with chips for £3.50 per portion.
A representative at Collins Seafoods Ltd, said: “We are proud to support the fish & chip offering available at the racecourse once again this year and it is set to be a great day as always. It is a pleasure to sponsor the Raceday and to have the opportunity to sponsor the final of the Young Chasers Series.”
Jill Williamson, Executive Director of Sedgefield Racecourse, said: “Last year’s Raceday was exceptionally popular, and we’re sure this meeting will be no different following the increase of prize money which in turn guarantees a competitive days racing. Fish and chips are a British institution, and teamed with a great day at the races, it is a real treat for people of all ages. The thing that is most appealing is that children under the age of 18 go free with a paying adult, so it will be a great day out for families. A huge thank you once again to Collins Seafoods Ltd and Director, Richard Collins for his continued support and donation of the fish. We’re really looking forward to it.”
It is the first of three March meetings at Sedgefield, with the next one being the Cheltenham Festival Raceday on Tuesday, 14 March, which allows racegoers to enjoy seven live races at Sedgefield and live racing from Cheltenham via the big screen. Plus the Betfred Hurdle Series Final Raceday on Wednesday, March 29 which will see the Class Two Hurdle Final sponsored by Betfred with the prize money valued at £20,000.
