Newton Aycliffe’s monthly comedy club at Steam Machine has a treat in store in January, with a headline act who has been touring huge UK venues throughout 2024. Hilarity Bites Comedy Club, on Thursday 16th January, will be headlined by Newcastle’s Louise Young, who has supported the likes of Jason Manford, Alan Carr, Tom Davis, Angela Barnes, and Tom Allen on their nationwide tours around the UK and Ireland. Louise has appeared on Channel 4, Comedy Central, Radio 4, and made her Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut in 2023 with her show ‘Feral’, which received rave reviews and was nominated for Edinburgh Comedy Awards: Best Newcomer, before going on to appear at London Soho Theatre’s Best Newcomer Season in 2024. The show was also nominated for NextUp’s Biggest Award in Comedy and was named as “one to watch” by Rolling Stone.
Joining Louise on the night is award-winning musical comedian Edy Hurst, who has been seen on MTV UK, heard on BBC Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, and was nominated for the Musical Comedy Awards in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and the BBC New Comedy Award in 2017. There’ll also be support from three newer comedians, and the show will be hosted by another popular local comedian, the brilliant Elaine Robertson, who is always a popular host of the Hilarity Bites shows at Seam Machine.
Steam Machine’s Nick Smith said “It’s a real privilege to host this evening at Steam Machine, and amazing to be able to see such talent in Newton Aycliffe once a month. Hilarity Bites comedy club is going from strength to strength, and we can’t wait to see the line up for the next one!”
