1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron ATC recently held their annual presentation evening. The squadron continues to perform excellently, as highlighted by the number of awards and certificates gained by the cadets during 2015. The evening began with badges being award for the cadets’ academic studies, Provisional Radio Certificates and Method of Instruction Course certificates. Nationally recognised awards including Entry Level Awards in Workplace Hazard Awareness, BTEC Diplomas in Aviation Studies and Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards were also presented.
The second half of the evening saw the awarding of the squadron’s trophies for 2015 by Deputy Wing Commander; Sqn Ldr John Scott and our squadron’s Commanding Officer; Flt Lt Karin Scott. The recipients were:

Crabbe Cup for Aircraft Recognition: Cdt A Colledge
Wings Appeal Cup: Cpl G Stewart
Laverick Memorial Trophy for Shooting: Cpl J Tinkler
Sedgefield Veterans’ Trophy for Attendance: Sgt Addison
Inter Flight Competition: A Flight
Tom Downs Cup for Endeavour and Service: Cdt J Tinkler
Scott Shield for Most Improved Cadet: Cpl P Hastie
Best Junior Cadet: Cdt G Bain
Boddy Trophy for Best NCO: CWO T Lowe
Fryer Shield for Cadet of the Year: Cdt K Newbery
Certificates of Merit were also awarded to Cpl J Hastie for the highest score in the IF Competition and Cpl J Tinkler for showing excellent improvement through the year. Cpl P Hastie, Cpl J Hastie and Cdt K Newbery were also awarded certificates for their high attendance.
The night was an excellent celebration of the achievements of all the members of 1407 squadron. The range of awards on offer and the high caliber of the cadets goes to show why we are among the top squadrons in Durham/Northumberland Wing. The squadron’s Commanding Officer, Flt Lt Karin Scott, would like to thank all of the staff and civilian committee for their hard work and commitment to the squadron.
