Our guest speaker was Syd Howarth who was warmly welcomed to the meeting. He gave a brief history of the Association from 1982 and named the late Katy Gibson and our present President as two of the main volunteers that kept the then called ‘Green Hut’ going for many years, before the new Centre was built and in operation by August 2009.
He praised the present volunteers since then for taking the Association forward with hard work and good decisions such as the Solar Panels installed and increasing the usage of the Centre.
He mentioned the surge of new community organisations springing up on the town such as Residents Associations and suggested that Agnew Community centre look to forming or helping a residents association for this area.
He was pleased the Agnew Centre were partners in the new GACAP set up to coordinate the work of the Food Banks and others working to help the needy of our town. He spoke about the work of Great Aycliffe Residents Association to which Agnew are considering joining in the near future.
The retiring Chairman Paul Gittins thanked Syd for his talk on behalf of all present.
The evening finished with refreshments and a photo taken with the two retiring Trustees after receiving a voucher and card each, presented by the incoming Chairman James Ross
