At our recent Olympic themed Family Fun Day in which we beat the weather, a good day was had by the steady stream of young people over the four hours the event ran.
We were honoured to have our Mayor, Councillor Val Raw declare the event open and then stayed for a long time supporting the day in which we give our thanks.
Our two County Councillors, Joan Gray and Paul Gittins, who supported this event by covering the cost of the two Bouncy Castles at £250 and supported us throughout the day.
The Children’s race events were well received and ably run my Mother and Son team of Leanne and Calvin Beaton who helped with our Disability Sports Club, the winners received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals which were provided by livin, and saw Estates Manager Robbie McCormack support us before and on the day, they also covered the costs of advertising, leaflets and flags/bunting.
It was a good community event and much appreciated by the Agnew Committee, Members and Community.
The sound system was supplied and run by Xcel Church members who are also one of our partners and run our Youth Club which is to be rebranded as PK Allstars and reopens on Friday 14th September, 6pm to 7.30pm
The helpers were James Ross – Event Organizer; Jamie Farrell – Singer; Andrea Aspel – Face Painter; Vicky Hewith – Crafts; Barbara Martin – Kitchen; Alec Martin – Bouncy Castle; Darren, Rachael, Andrea and Caleb – general duties.
Committee helpers were James as above, Audrey Armitage – Raffle; Jane Taylor – Kitchen; Cllr. Paul Gittins – Vote of thanks and looking after our Guests, the Mayor Councillor Val Raw and County Councillor Joan Gray; Ron Mitchie – Gopher!
The community theme showed that it is not dead as we had Newton Aycliffe Sports Club supply the line marker and materials and Chris Palmer the grounds man gave up his own time to come and mark out a 4 lane x 30m running track and an area for throwing events, our grateful thanks go to both parties.
At the end of a very enjoyable day by our visitors and helpers we achieved a profit of £118. If I have left anyone out who helped and/or supported us in this event then please accept my personal thanks and at the same time apologies for the oversight.
PK ALLSTARS
Please note that this will be replacing the Elevate Youth Club which ran on a Saturday morning from 10.30am to 12noon.
This will now run on a Friday night from the 14th September, 6pm to 7.30pm with the first week being FREE and then a charge of £1 per session will be in place.
This will allow prizes to be given each session and to add or replace equipment when needed.
VOLUNTEERS
We are keen to have more volunteers at this time to cover a wide range of skills and duties: Fundraising, Gardening, Office Work (covering from the mundane to grant applications), Repairs and Maintenance, Working with Young People (in which we pay for the CRB checks).
Any contacts can be made in the first instance to the Manager on 01325 321504 or his answering facility, 07749 236 853, email agnewcommunitycentre@btconnect.com
HALLMARK SCHEME
After a long haul we have recently achieved the Hallmark 1 accreditation, which is awarded for a quality standard scheme for Village Halls and Community Centres and after a bit of a rest will decide if we want to go for the level 2 award.
In the meantime well done to all the Committee Members and to Durham Rural Community Council for all of their help and in particular that of Helen Brown.
