The first Fun Day on the Green event was on Thursday 15th August near Christopher Walk. Nothing new about Fun Days in the summer you may say, but this event was very special as it was organised by the junior section, Little Acorns.
Let down by the main attraction, a bus full of farmyard animals: Dorothy Bowman quickly stepped in to arrange an inflatable slide to complement the Toy Story bouncy castle.
Professor Nincompoop entertained dancing children and adults; following this with a magic show, which enthralled kids and adults alike.
Hook a Duck proved very popular with sweets for prizes whilst a buzz of excitement surrounded Harry Potty as he transformed children into cats and bears etc. with face paint.
Tombola sold out within an hour.
Neighbourhood Police Beat Team put in an appearance with their vehicles which were opened up for public inspection; leading to several people being treated to a lock up experience including Sid the ACORN Squirrel and Professor Nincompoop.
The most impressive event of the afternoon was the Teddy Bear’s picnic, which required children and adults to attend with their own teddy in fancy dress with prizes for the winners.
This was a real community event, with loans of a gazebo, marquee and other items. Residents pulled together to make the event the most memorable ever known in the area. People of all ages thoroughly enjoyed the event and the use of social networks swelled numbers as word spread outside the area.
ACORN will share any profits from the day with a Newton Aycliffe welfare group.
It was decided to hold a second event at the same  venue on Wednesday 21st August with pony rides, inflatables and a Punch and Judy show.
ACORN are selling tickets for a bus trip to South Shields on the 31st August at a nominal price of £3 per head.
ACORN work with an aim of improving the area between Burn lane and Ashfield in any way we can. We support any improvement in this fantastic town of Newton Aycliffe .
ACORN meet monthly at the British Legion club on the second Thursday of each month. The junior section is at 5.30 pm and the main group meet at 6pm. We discuss local issues and welcome the attendance of Police, Council representatives and staff from livin.
We are an inclusive organisation and welcome anyone interested in the improvement of our area and our town.
