Popular residents group ACORN have announced at their recent meeting funding from the big lottery “Awards for All fund”. A sum of £9875.00 has been allocated to the community group to enhance work already in progress.
For many years ACORN has been improving community cohesion and infrastructure in the local area and beyond through discussion, persuasion and persistence. Money is not always the answer to improvement, but local perspective can cast a different light upon problems hence the importance of monthly meetings attended by the public and local councillors and others.
Little ACORNS petting zoo sponsored by DCC Councillors Eddy Adam and Kate Hopper and to be opened by Phil Wilson MP will be our first event , held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on April 7th there will as usual be fun for the whole family from bouncy castle, face painting from Harry Potty and balloon art performed by Professor Nincompoop to entertain children, Two petting zoos ANIMAL STORY & CRAZY CREATURES, Tombola and a visit from Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood police beat officers with firm kiddies favourites Jet and Ben.

“Syd the Squirrel” and “Spotty Dog” our dress up characters will be on hand to entertain kiddies with photo opportunities, whilst tombola and bouncy castle will entertain others.
Meanwhile in con-junction with “Its Your Neighbourbourhood 2018” ACORN will be planting up extra wooden tubs and bulbs to brighten up our area for the benefit of all.
