ACORN Residents held their AGM on Thursday 10th April at the Royal British Legion Club. Chairman Ken Robson announced that ACORN were building on the success of the previous two years with more community activities and outings.
ACORN will begin the year in a sound financial position and continue to work on community projects and events of interest to its members.
In a spirit of collaboration the group expect to work in partnership with other organisations including the Police and local authorities to solve local issues. 2013/2014 has seen an upsurge in local residents’ associations eager to be involved in making improvements in neighbourhoods across the town.
We welcome the new Lakes and Dales group operating out of Silverdale Community Centre.
In moving the annual ACORN report and fiscal results it was noted that the whole of Newton Aycliffe was buzzing with a new sense of optimism in the future. There is nothing we cannot achieve together.
Speakers for the evening were Claire and Claire from Durham Constabulary who presented information on Cybercrime to Little ACORNS and the adult group. Hopefully armed with the information presented we will all be a little safer on the internet and social media.
ACORN continue to welcome new members from around the Great Aycliffe area. The present committee was re-elected unopposed and we accept that decision as a vote of confidence.
