On 31st May 2015, a wet, cold miserable morning in Middlesbrough, Newtonian Claire Welsh stood encouraging 11 of her fellow family and friends who had rallied round to help her raise a minimum of £1000 for her chosen charity by abseiling down the Tees Transporter Bridge.
The charity, Lullaby Trust supports families who have experienced the loss of an infant from cot death (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The Trust provides specialist support for the bereaved families and promotes expert advice on safer baby sleep.
This awareness is very real to Claire’s parents Linda and Dave Viggers who lost their son Gary back in 1982 at 5 month old from SIDS.
Claire and her family’s loss was at the heart of the organised event and in memory of Gary the twelve brave ladies climbed (with guidance from Climbing-ROCKS) the 165ft Tees Transporter Bridge and began their frightening although exciting decent to meet friends and family there to support and cheer them on.
Claire & her family would like to thank the 11 ladies: Cheryl Knaggs, Dorothy Lovegreen, Lisa Devonport, Katie Emmett, Katrina Elliff, Sian Williams, Lynne Siddens, Katherine Cornley, Katie Hewitson, Jodie Leigh Errington, Sarah Gill. Without them it wouldn’t have been such a great day. With still more money to collect the group have raised £1,875 nearly double the target.
