Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP) has given a local education centre for children with Down Syndrome a boost thanks to a £1,000 grant.

The charity was established over six years ago and recently re-located to the Pioneering Care Centre at Newton Aycliffe due to expansion. The aim of the centre is to provide a space to enhance the development of children with Down Syndrome, offering individual learning programmes to each child and advice and training to their carers.

The group offers pre-school and school aged groups, parent and carer training and a grandparent group.

Brian Riley, GAMP coordinator, said: “A key priority for GAMP is to help support the local community and voluntary sector. The support given to the centre will help fund their running costs and allow them to provide a valuable service.”

The cash has been donated from the GAMP Small Grants Fund, managed on behalf of the GAMP by CAVOS.

GAMP is one of 14 Area Action Partnerships set up by Durham County Council in 2009 to help the authority better engage with residents.
