I returned to my Civic duties this week to find a letter from Buckingham Palace on my desk. As the New Years Honours List had already been published, and I am 28 years short of a telegram for my birthday, I was intrigued to learn of its contents.
Inside of the envelope was a card from our King Charles III thanking us, the people of Great Aycliffe, for our letter of condolence following the demise of his beloved mother Queen Elizabeth II and a lovely photograph of a much younger Queen and her eldest son. I thought readers may be interested and have attached a copy for publication, the original letter has been put into our archives.
