Nicholas Parsons shares stories and anecdotes from his life and career during a visit to Durham next weekend. The actor, comic, raconteur and unlikely sex symbol brings his one-man show to Gala Theatre on Sunday, 9 September. Nicholas began his stage career in Glasgow, struggling to become an actor while at the same time also serving an engineering apprenticeship in the shipyards of Clydeside.
He eventually made it to the West End, appearing in a variety of productions including Boeing Boeing, Uproar in the House and Stagestruck. In the 1970s he became the host of Sale of the Century and for the past 25 years has been chairman of Radio 4’s Just a Minute. He has also written, produced and directed five short comedy films and written a collection of broadcasting clangers and hiccups. He even donned stockings and suspenders to play the Narrator in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
This current tour finds him revisiting various parts of his life and career, from those early days in Clydeside to his wide-ranging showbiz work. With a genial ease and an effortless rapport with his audience, Nicholas is more surprising, outrageous and hilarious than ever.
