People with a passion for their community are being invited to join the board of Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP).

The AAP, one of 14 set up by Durham County Council, is seeking two new public representatives to help determine how its annual £155,000 budget is used to benefit the community.

Over the last 12 months, Durham AAP has supported dozens of projects including Durham Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Investing in Children, Laurel Avenue Community Centre and West Rainton Dementia Friends.

Craig Morgan, Durham AAP co-ordinator, said: “This is an opportunity to really make a difference and to help ensure grass roots organisations in the Durham area get the support they need.

“We have two public representative vacancies and are looking for people who are active in their communities and have something to say about what goes on. We will provide support, including an induction session and training if needed, and we can cover out of pocket expenses.”

Durham AAP covers the Durham City area as well as the outlying areas such as, Witton Gilbert, Bearpark, Framwellgate Moor and Newton Hall, West Rainton, Pittington, Sherburn, Shadforth, Ludworth and Shincliffe.

Board members meet about ten times per year in venues across the area. They receive regular presentations from local organisations and groups and are often asked to participate in public consultations.

Anyone aged 16 or over who lives, works, studies or volunteers in the Durham area can apply to become a public representative. Everyone who applies will have to complete a short application form and those shortlisted will be invited to come in for an informal chat with Craig and some members of the AAP board. Representatives can serve on Durham AAP’s board for a maximum of four years.

Closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 10 February. For an application pack or for more information, contact dcaap@durham.gov.uk or call on 03000 267207 / 264991.
