Great Aycliffe Town Council established their Community Recognition Award Scheme in 2022. It was developed to provide a way to recognise and acknowledge the dedication, commitment and outstanding contributions that nominated individuals make to improve and promote the Parish of Great Aycliffe.
Our newest recipient of the award is Alex Brown who was nominated for his charitable work by Councillor Joanne Jones for his great fundraising efforts within the parish, including using his own pocket money to purchase prizes for a raffle and even shaving his head to raise funds. He was invited to the Council Offices for a presentation of a medal and certificate.
The Mayor, Councillor Ken Robson, presented the award and congratulated Alex on his hard work and dedication commenting, “It is always a pleasure to promote the best of Newton Aycliffe and particularly recipients of this award, to be able to give this award to one so young is a privilege which I relish. Children are often given a bad press and it is wonderful to be able to show just how special some of our young people are, Alex Brown is an exceptional example of a very community minded person always willing to help others. Here’s wishing him all the very best for his future.”
Alex was joined by his parents, Kelly and Peter, for the presentation and said, “Thank you so much for this award I am really proud of it, but the true heroes are friends, family, and every person that donates to all these charity fundraisers and give to such good causes, I would like to thank everyone for their support.”
