On Tuesday 11th June, Vane Road School Council went on a mini-bus to the Newton Aycliffe Council Offices to meet the Mayor and Mayor’s Consort.
On arrival, the children were treated to orange juice and a biscuit. Meanwhile, they asked the representative of Newton Aycliffe questions they thought of themselves.
a member of the School Council said “We got to wear the Mayor’s chain, and it was a lot heavier than I thought it would be!. Some of us even got to wear the robe!”
The School Council found that Aycliffe Council do not actually own the town centre. A company in London owns it and are re-paving it and adding statues.
In the Council Offices, there were pictures of all the Mayors of Newton Aycliffe since the beginning.
Before the School Council left, they were kindly given a badge with the Newton Aycliffe Crest printed on and were given a special pen (and another biscuit).
