The swimmers of Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club were on the road again last weekend as four young athletes made the long trip to Sheffield and the International Swimming Venue Ponds Forge.
The hosts this time were the Derby-based club Derventio Excel and the competition was held to allow competitors to post times for attempts at qualification for national summer competitions. Numerous big swimming clubs from all over the country sent their best swimmers but little Sedgefield 75 held their own with some top quality swimming.
It started on Friday evening with long distance events and Emma Price beat her 800m freestyle PB by nearly five seconds and won silver in her age group. Onto Saturday and Emma swam 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly, swimming a big PB in the fly – a new club record, winning gold and qualifying for the 15 years and under final despite being 13 years old.
Filip Wilczynski swam a PB in 200m individual medley and took gold in 50m backstroke. He followed that up with silver in 100m backstroke and qualified for the 15 years and under final, and Filip is still 12!
Zoe Hodgson arrived in the afternoon for her first Ponds Forge swim and hit PB on 50m freestyle.
On day three, Filip swam a good 50m butterfly PB winning silver, beating his own club record and then bronze in 200m backstroke. He also swam a very good 100m butterfly time.
Charlie McEwan swam a PB in 50m freestyle in a rapid 27.14 seconds and Emma hit the mark on 200m individual medley and won silver and a new club record in 200m freestyle.
