The rain the previous week completely waterlogged all the Oakleaf pitches, cancelling many of our games.
Coxhoe United 1 v 2 Aycliffe u13 Eagles
The Eagles were having plenty of chances in front of goal in the first half but couldn’t find the net, however Coxhoe took their only real chance to get to HT 1-0.
The second half was very much like the first with chances coming and going but a pass found Jake who controlled and blasted the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner, 1-1. A free kick was awarded to The Eagles, Liam stepped up and saw Adam free in the box. Liam played a perfect ball over the top where Adam volleyed it perfectly into the top corner with his left foot which proved to be the winning goal. MOTM Adam.
Adults
Redcar u23’s 0 v 6 Newton Aycliffe u23’s
More cup action for the 23’s, away to a side 3rd in the division above. This would be a good test to see how the team could compete against higher level opposition.
First 20 minutes of the game the lads didn’t settle and looked rushed on the ball. Then Kieran Maughan is brought down in the box, Jack Mortimer converts to open the scoring.
Ten minutes later a back post header by Cameron Martin and we reach HT 2-0 up
A quick decisive start when Cobi Jones sent Jack clear who rounds the keeper to tap home. This was quickly followed by his third when Kieran’s shot was well saved by the keeper and fell to Jack to calmly make it 4-0. Thomas Rawlinson showed a burst of speed and gets a shot away but was saved by the keeper, but Jon Hardy was on hand to score his second goal in two games. Jon then got in behind the full back and crossed for Fawcett, on his debut, to smash home our 6th of the game.
Next 5 games are massive for the team it’s a big ask but, if we can keep this run going, we could find ourselves finishing the season second in the league and a chance of three cup finals.
Chester le Street United 4 v 1 Newton Aycliffe Women
The first half was an even affair, CLS took the lead midway through the first half but Aycliffe immediately stuck back as Meg pounced onto the loose ball to score 1-1. The better chances in the first half fell to Aycliffe, Meg came close, Jordan hit the post and Amber was unlucky on a few occasions, HT 1-1. Second half Aycliffe started well and looked comfortable limiting CLS to long range shots. However, CLS then started to take control of the game and went on to score 3 more goals making the final score 4-1, POTM Bethany.
